Space Maintainers

Posterior baby teeth (primary molars) are lost and replaced by the permanent successor teeth (premolars) over a several year span typically during ages 9 to 13. The baby molars are important in preserving the space and guiding the emerging permanent teeth into healthy positions. Premature loss of posterior baby teeth may require utilization of a space maintainer to hold the space necessary for arrival of the permanent teeth. The CPDA pediatric and orthodontic dental teams monitor each child’s dental growth and development and will advise on the need and options of space maintenance.

We invite you to contact us at our Cambridge pediatric dental office for more information about space maintainers or to schedule a consultation with one of our experienced dentists.
