Stainless Steel Crowns
Preformed metal crowns, also known as Stainless Steel Crowns, are prefabricated metal crown forms that are adapted to individual teeth. Primary (baby) molars (back teeth) and permanent molars may require restorative procedures commonly called “crowns” or “caps”. Bacterial tooth decay (dental caries), developmental defects, or fractured teeth may require treatment to restore teeth with a Stainless Steel Crown. Although most teeth can be restored with tooth colored resin-based composites, sometimes full coverage protection with a Stainless Steel Crown is necessary for strength and to restore form and function of the molar. Stainless Steel Crowns are adapted and placed in one visit. And, when placed on primary molars, the Stainless Steel Crowns are lost by wiggling back and forth just like natural primary molars are lost.
