Pediatric Dentist

Sara Filstrup

Dr. Sara Filstrup is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Filstrup joined our practice in 2003. She has enjoyed watching many of her patients grow from toddlers to college students. This is something that she truly values—developing long-term relationships with the children and their families that she sees year after year. Her goal every day is to provide exceptional individualized care while creating positive experiences that make children feel comfortable and confident about going to the dentist.

Dr. Filstrup earned her DDS degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1999. She also completed her undergraduate studies and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan in 1995. Dr. Filstrup earned her Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan in 2001 and was a Fellow in Pediatric Dentistry at C.S. Mott Children’s Health Center in Flint, Michigan. In 2003, Dr. Filstrup received the award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Michigan’s Kenneth A. Easlick Society.

Dr. Filstrup is actively engaged in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). She has severed as the AAPD Parliamentarian, as well as, the Chairperson of the Council on Clinical Affairs for the AAPD. She has also served on AAPD Committees focused on Perinatal Oral Health and Dental Health Benefits Programs. She is a graduate of the 2010-2012 AAPD Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children (HSHC) Leadership Institute at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and the 2016-2017 HSHC Advanced Leadership Institute at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Dr. Filstrup is honored to be the recipient of two prestigious national awards from the AAPD in recognition of her outstanding efforts in children’s oral health and welfare (2012) and her exemplary leadership service in the Academy (2015). Her writings and research have been published in several pediatric dental journals, textbooks, handbooks, and online publications.

Dr. Filstrup lives in Boston with her husband, David J. Fiorillo DDS, who is a general dentist. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, traveling, skiing, scuba diving, surfing, and spending time with family and friends. An avid Wolverine fan, she enjoys returning to Ann Arbor, Michigan for college football games in the Big House. Go Blue!
